{"id":149,"date":"2006-03-26T20:34:40","date_gmt":"2006-03-27T03:34:40","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/www.nicholasgoodman.com\/bt\/blog\/?p=149"},"modified":"2006-03-26T20:34:40","modified_gmt":"2006-03-27T03:34:40","slug":"rip-ingres","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"http:\/\/www.nicholasgoodman.com\/bt\/blog\/2006\/03\/26\/rip-ingres\/","title":{"rendered":"RIP Ingres"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>Well, after more than a month, the folks at <a href=\"http:\/\/www.ingres.com\">Ingres<\/a> came back to the community with <strong>ABSOLUTELY NO CHANGES<\/strong> in their licensing.  <a href=\"http:\/\/www.ingres.com\/legal\/Legal_Licensing_Notice.html\">Ingres is indeed &#8220;viral.&#8221;<\/a><\/p>\n<p>So, the <a href=\"http:\/\/groups.google.com\/group\/comp.databases.ingres\/browse_thread\/thread\/648591e63c43f554?tvc=2\">head fake<\/a> is complete (ie, biz friendly CA-TOSL to viral GPL), and Ingres Corporation has <a href=\"http:\/\/www.bayontechnologies.com\/bt\/blog\/archives\/2006\/02\/ingres_screws_u.php\">charted it&#8217;s course to irrelevance<\/a>.  Again, this is just one opinionated blogger but I think Ingres won&#8217;t gain traction in new markets now (see previous post <a href=\"http:\/\/www.bayontechnologies.com\/bt\/blog\/archives\/2006\/02\/ingres_screws_u.php\">why GPL is bad for Ingres<\/a>, not in general, just Ingres)<\/p>\n<p>I&#8217;m sad.  Ingres is (should I say was?) cool.
